Does Paint Brand Really Make A Difference?

Not an ad, I’m just super picky about my paints!

Magnolia Home Paint in Mineral Green

With paint brands costing anywhere from $25 a gallon to over $60 a gallon, you really question if a $60 paint can be worth 3 times the price. I’ve used Valspar, Benjamin Moore, Behr, Magnolia Home, and Sherwin Williams all on wall applications. Here’s a quick run down on general price points:

  • $25 – Valspar
  • $30 – Behr
  • $50 – Benjamin Moore Regal
  • $50 – Magnolia Home
  • $75 – Sherwin Williams Emerald Interior

My hands down favorite paint is Sherwin Williams. Yes, the highest price point, but the quality is undeniable. The pigment is consistent and accurate. The viscosity of the paint is perfect for a smooth application, but not so runny that the paint is dripping off the brush while cutting in around the trim. There is minimal splattering when rolling, too. Also, Sherwin Williams runs decent sales at least once a quarter (30-40% off!).

BUT! If you have an Ace Hardware near you, Magnolia Home paint is divine to work with. The consistency is super thick making it easily controllable when cutting in and no splatter when rolling. When I used the Mineral Green color to paint the above room, it took only one coat — half a gallon! Joanna Gaines has curated the colors to be foolproof. Every color is on trend and with a wide enough variety everyone can find a color that resonates.

Paint colors in order of appearance:

  • Magnolia Home – Mineral Green
  • Sherwin Williams – Peach Blossom
  • Magnolia Home – Spontaneous

Do you have a ride or die paint brand? Or favorite color that you use time and again?
(Do not tell me Agreeable Gray or I will give you some serious side-eye!)
